About Schukra

History

In the early 1950's, Wilhelm Schuster Sr. developed a new device that held a patient's spine in position during back surgery. The device was adjustable to suit the varied spine curvatures found on different individuals. Building on his lumbar research and development for orthopedic surgery, Mr. Schuster applied his knowledge to the development of lumbar seat support systems for portable backrests, office furniture and automotive markets.

In 1965, Schukra was awarded a Gold medal at the prestigious International Grand Prix de L'invention in Brussels for its work on lumbar seating.

Since 1990, Schukra has continued to grow as lumbar seat comfort systems have become available on North American and European vehicles.

In 2000, Schukra merged with Leggett & Platt of Carthage, Missouri. The merger enabled Schukra to broaden its product offering in the automotive comfort seating area.

Today, Schukra is the world's leading supplier of lumbar seat comfort systems for the automotive, aviation and commercial furniture market.
